[edit] Song information
"Ain't It Funny" was the third international single released by Lopez and the fourth and final single from J. Lo in the United States. Originally the song was only set for European release, however after the success of "I'm Real" in the U.S., promotional singles were sent out to radio stations in the autumn of 2001. Lopez even stopped by MTV's TRL to premier the video and explain the concept of the song. She said she had written the song while filming The Wedding Planner. The song was originally intended for the soundtrack, however didn't make the final cut.
Due to lack of promotion and radio airplay the single failed to chart on any of the Billboard Music Charts. "Ain't It Funny" later received a remix which appeared on her 2002 album. The Murder Remix went on to be far more successful than the original track in the United States. Note that the remix is an entirely different song from the original itself.
"Que Ironia" (which means "What an Irony"), the Spanish-language version of "Ain't It Funny", was released to Spanish-speaking countries in 2001. This version is available for purchase on all Latin American copies of the J. Lo album, and it is also available on some international CD singles.
[edit] Music Video
The music video was filmed in sepia-tone and directed by Herb Ritts. The video features Lopez traveling on a road, then she finds a gypsy, who shows Lopez her future with the cards. The gypsies eventually make over Lopez making her one of their own. Then Lopez finds a man she couldn't resist, and falls in love with him. In the middle of the video, there's an extended dance sequence, in which she dances in a Spanish (flamenco-influenced) routine. Eventually all the people there start dancing together, including Jennifer and her lover. Lopez's love interest is played by Mexican soap opera actor Eduardo Verástegui. The video debuted the week of July 2, 2001 internationally and in the autumn of 2001 in the U.S.
