Presidential elections will be held in Afghanistan in the second half of 2009.[1] It had been proposed to hold the 2010 parliamentary election at the same time, but the political currents could not agree on this issue; this failure to save expenses and to reduce the danger of having two votes in the still dangerous southern regions has been heavily criticised.[2]
