Added a line about power consumption of 'dead weight' materials at the request of a friend. However, on verification, I'd like to see a little more added along the lines of.. While other cylinders are shut off, the pistons continue to compress and decompress gas, requiring power from the engine to move the pistons and crankshaft portions which are not used for producing power. The actual power required in compression, however is balanced by the decompressing gasses in other cylinders.

GM's press site indicated that the name "Displacement on Demand" was going to be renamed "Active Fuel Management". Evidence of this is apparent on the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe's Vortec 5.3. So what would that mean for this article?--24.89.215.104 01:26, 8 January 2006 (UTC)


This whole article seems like a press release. I suggest a rewrite or deletion.

Agreed. This article should be combined with Honda's Variable Cylinder Management and given a non-patented neutral name for what is essentially the same technology. --NickGlasowiski (talk) 16:46, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
