Absam is a village located approximately 13 km east of Innsbruck, Austria. The village has an estimated population of 6,500. The area of Absam is about 52 km². The village was founded as a place of pilgrimage in 995. Absam lies 632m above Sea Level. It is possible to reach the village by using bus lines D and E from Innsbruck. The neighbourvillages of Absam are Thaur, Hall in Tirol, Mils, Innsbruck, Scharnitz, Gnadenwald, Vomp and Fritzens.

On the 24th June 2000, the church of Absam was reclassified as a basilica although there had been no petition for such a change by the church community.[citation needed]
