Abaeté is a Brazilian city in the central portion of the state of Minas Gerais. In 2004, its population was estimated to be 23,217.

Abaeté is located south of the Três Marias river on the Planalto Sertanejo, it's on the west of the Serra do Tigre. The state capital of Belo Horizonte lies at a distance of 220 km., and is reached by BR-040, via Pompeu-Martinho Campos. The region was very prosperous during the cycle of diamonds and now bases its economy on milk production.
