I see a few references to Esther on this page, which I take to be the name of one of the characters but that's not explained anywhere I can see --Mortice 22:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the Garland character is named "Esther Blodgett" and changes it to "Vicki Lester" when she becomes a star. I'm surprised this article has no plot or cast sections, which would help explain the situation. I don't have enoough time now, but I'll add something when I get a chance.
