[edit] Thanks
Re: Grime. It's good to see an editor with low tolerance for linkspam. I've been meaning to go through those forever to clear them out. Cheers, BanyanTree 14:25, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Actually I wasn't even sure about the remaining links except for the pitchfork article. a.bit 16:22, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Scissor Sister - External links
I'd like to point out that the three links you persistently remove from the Scissor Sisters article are not in fact linkspam, and would like to know your reasoning for removing them - especially as a number of the links you deem acceptable in that article ARE linkspam. StudioSpooky is the OFFICIAL site of the artist who does the album and single covers for this band. The Partybus is the most official fanpage, having been referenced by the band in their credits for the DVD, and being officially linked to by the management of the Scissor Sisters Official Site. The AMAS is the site of a major fangroup. Conversely, WASS.tk , which you deem an acceptable link, is merely a fanpage which incidentally takes much of its content from the Wikipedia Scissor Sisters page. 217.206.231.128 11:27, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- You can see my reasoning for removing those links at Talk:Scissor Sisters#External links. I would like to add that the fact that I did not remove the other links (e.g. the interviews) does not mean that I think they are really informative (let alone that I would have added the links myself if they hadn't been there already), but only that I think they are slightly more acceptable than the ones I removed. You may disagree, but I would prefer to continue the discussion at the article's talk page. --a.bit 16:30, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grime
Good spot on quickly removing the buried links to online record shops - you beat me with that edit, well done. Escaper7 11:52, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] iTunes Store volume discounts reference
Hiya, I noticed you modified the reference for itunes store volume discounts from this to this. From a quick reading, it looks like the latter is the Belgium/Netherlands conditions for the volume offer, but different in specifics to the US version mentioned in the article (making the numbers stated in the article not true according to the cited page) - what was your reason for changing it? Thanks! --Maebmij 22:59, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- No, actually, the reason was that I got an error message with the original url you posted (more specifically, I was being redirected to the Music Marketing FAQ, as far as I remember). Since I could not find any information about volume discounts, but wanted to know about them anyway, I googled the term and thought I could as well fix (as it seemed to me) the reference. I was not awareof the site being B/NL-specific (although the "benl" in the url should have told me something). Now I can also access the site you linked first here. I am not sure why that is, but you might as well change revert my change since the reason for it somehow evaporated. Regards, a.bit 06:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Edit (Travel Guide spam revert)
Hello,
I see that you recently deleted the link that I only recently added. I believe that it is a legitimate link for the following reasons:
1. Many other places (cities and countries) have links referring them to travel guides which are useful for that area, as they contain information regarding that area which is not included in the article. Hence there should be no reason why my link to the Rough Guides website should be any different. Unlike many others, the Rough Guides website does not have extensive advertising on it, but rather, it provides a large degree of useful travel information.
2. As you are probably aware WikiTravel has a number of external links referring people to their own travel guide. In the Amman example, I added an external link as Wikitravel has failed to do so for this location. Surely if adding external links can be done to a series of other locations such as New York by Wikitravel, it should not be restricted for less well known places?
3. The fact that there are links to Wikitravel would suggest that information regarding travel is considered to be appropriate for the Wikipedia website.
I fully understand that there is a need to prevent people from merely advertising on Wikipedia, as this is not it's purpose. However, I hope you will agree with me that in this example, it is not a matter of advertising, but of providing a highly important link that is legitimate as it has a basis in precedent.
Kind regards,

- Before I reverted your changes, I noticed that you already got an answer to more or less the same question here, where you were told (quite politely) that and why these links are not welcome. So what's the point of posting more or less the same message/question on other people's user pages? Anyway, Van helsing gave pretty good answers on his talk page.
