Listeners get to call in and choose a song from six snippets played.

  • Say What!?! - The Dan And Young Show, weekday mornings, 7.00 AM

Listeners call in to complete a sentence given to them by Dan and Young on The Dan and Young Show, often resulting in rather hilarious consequences. For instance, Optimus Prime called in THRICE, during the previous timeslot of The Dan and Young show (4-8pm).

  • Did He Just Say That? - The Dan And Young Show, weekday mornings, 9.00 AM

A recorded quote from a famous star is played, with one of the words in the quote censored out. Listeners have to send in their guesses via SMS for that censored word. Dan and Young would read the wrong answers out as the game progresses to narrow the field down. This game segment has since been ceased as of 22 February 2008 and has been replaced by a similar game but a sound effect is played instead of a quote.

  • Odd One Out - The Desiree Lai Show, weekdays, 11.00 AM

Four song snippets are played in a row, and one of these snippets have something different from the other three snippets. Listeners have to figure out the song that is the odd one out of the four song snippets, and send the reason in via SMS as well.

  • Scramble - The Desiree Lai Show, weekdays, 12.00 PM

Listeners will be give four scrambled letters that form a word. The first one to send in the right answer wins the prize of the week.

Listeners would be given two choices or bad situations where they are call or text in to give their opinion on which situation they would prefer to be in.

  • Song To Squeeze - The Shan And Rozz Show, weekdays, 5.00 PM

  • Radio Scrabulous - The Shan And Rozz Show, weekdays, 7.00 PM

This is the radio version of the Facebook application where Shan and Rozz will pick 10 tiles and read them out to listeners. The listener who sends in the longest word will get to request for a song.

  • Shan and Rozz take you to the Movies - The Shan And Rozz Show, weekdays, 7.30 PM

Listeners send in an SMS and one would be selected everyday to go and accompony Shan and Rozz to watch a movie on the next Monday. There would be free popcorn and drinks.

  • What The Bleah!!! - Muttons To Midnight, weekdays, 9.00 PM

Lyrics of a particular song would be stated by "Harajuku Mutton" (previously) or "Baby Mutton" in a tone that is very different from the tone of the original song. Listeners have to figure out the name and artist of the song and send it in via SMS. "Harajuku Mutton" is a woman whose voice has the accent of a Harajuku Girl, while "Baby Mutton" is Justin Ang who imitates the voice of a baby.

  • Tickle My Muttons! - Muttons To Midnight, weekdays, 10.00 PM

Muttons share a joke with the listeners at the end of the first-half of the show.

[edit] Other Information About The Station and Its DJs

  • Rosalyn Lee had starred in Channel 5's local variety production, entitled Girls Out Loud.
  • Rosalyn Lee is hosting Channel 5's Mitsubishi Challenge which airs every Tuesday at 9pm.
  • Justin Ang does voice-overs for certain Kids Central trailers.
  • Young, Soo, Emily and Jacq are featured in Channel 5's brand new local game show, The Showdown in a team called "The Motormouths". 987 eventually won the grand prize after defeating the rival team "Stylo Milos", from Suria.
  • Carrie Chong once received an e-mail from "Daniel Ong", requesting a song dedication. However, it appears that the person just happened to share the same name as the ex-987FM DJ.
  • Dan & Young, The Muttons, Shan and ex-987FM DJ Carrie were filmed in a video featuring their rounds of giving oranges to selected 987FM listeners in February 2007.
  • Shan, Young and Senior Promotions Executive of 987FM, Yanie, filmed a video of themselves singing and dancing to Rihanna's hit single, Umbrella, as a publicity stunt for a Rihanna contest held in June 2007.
  • Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, has called in thrice during Dan and Young's "Say What!?!" segment during the 'Dan and Young Show'. The latest call was on 12 July 2007. This was the first time an international (alien, transformable, robotic) star called in suddenly to the station. Technically, someone might have used a Voice Editing Software to edit his or her voice, and played it during the call. The voice distinctly sounded like that of Peter Cullen (the voice of G1/Movie Optimus Prime), except that it seemed to have a metallic-echo effect.
  • During one of the "Did He Just Say That?" sessions on the then- "Dan and Ven Show", the winner of the contest actually managed to guess Dan and Ven's identity after she said "Hello?" in a faked voice.
  • Prior to Young leaving 987FM, he claimed that he was going to shift his house and felt miserable as he had fond memories of his current location. But the real shock came to him when he realised he also had to leave 987FM. It was revealed that somehow, Young was allegedly pulled out of the 987 studio by security guards on 11 July 2007, according to Miss Vendetta on the then 'Dan and Ven Show'. It has been revealed that Young was away in Langkawi and was temporarily substituted by Miss Vendetta. He has since returned to the renamed 'Dan and Young Show'.
  • Ex-987FM DJ Raven was scheduled to start work and come on air on 987FM in mid-February 2007. However, due to issues with her visa, she came into the station only in mid-July 2007. She hosted 987 InfoHound and left 987FM for Hong Kong on 19 October 2007.
  • Young substituted for Shan Wee on the UK Top 20 on 15 July 2007 despite having left the station. It has been revealed that Young was away in Langkawi and was temporarily substituted by Miss Vendetta. He has since returned to the 'Dan and Young Show'.
  • This particular page was once mentioned by Soo Wei on 'Say It With Music' on 26 July 2007. Soo claimed she was shocked about all the detailed information provided on this page as it is updated very frequently. She believes someone who tunes in '24/7' to 987FM is partially responsible for the updating. On the contrary, it is actually updated by various contributors. (See History)
  • This particular page on Wikipedia was also once mentioned by Miss Vendetta and Tim Oh during the former 'The TV Show' on 30 July 2007, and Raven Hanson on InfoHound.
  • On Muttons To Midnight, any word that can't be said on radio was replaced by the word "banana".
  • The Muttons were suspended for a while due to their participation in No Bra Day, an activity that was sponsored by FHM Singapore and featured young models competing to see who could remove their bras in the fastest time possible. A video taken in the studio was posted on YouTube and the resulting uproar from viewers forced the station to fork out S$9,800 to the Media Development Authority of Singapore for 'inappropriate and offensive content'. Muttons in the Morning was then replaced with The Dan and Young Show. They soon came back to 987FM for the late night slot show, now called Muttons To Midnight.[2]
  • The name of the show "Muttons to Midnight" is actually a rip-off from the album "Minutes to Midnight"
  • The Muttons also enjoy ripping off songs for fun at their own expense.
  • Justin accidently gave himself away as Baby Mutton on one of the "What The Bleah!" segments. This is also the reason why when Baby Mutton is 'absent', Justin would ask Vernon to read the lyrics to avoid being exposed.
  • Miss Vendetta (Vanessa Fernandez) recently released her own single entitled 'You Don't Need To Speed' which premiered on the airwaves of 987FM. The song was well-received by listeners and this increased the airplay of the song.[3]
  • Miss Vendetta (Vanessa Fernandez) was recently involved in a music duo called "10 Vox" and released the cover single "When I'm 64" which premiered on the airwaves of 987FM on 24 April 2008. The song is exclusive to 987 and the CD single would be released in stores in mid-June 2008 and the CD sales would be use to fund a charity event as said on the Shan and Rozz show, 4.30pm 24/04/08.
  • At a certain point in time in late July 2007, 987FM listeners could win a $50 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf voucher just by voting for their favourite songs on the 987 Top 20 Chart, but the promotion had since ended on 5 October 2007 and has now been replaced by the Samsung Live out Loud Music Phones contest.
  • Daniel Ong won the "Most Popular Radio Personality" and "Carlsberg Friendliest Radio Personality" awards at the Singapore Radio Awards 2007.[4]
  • Young accepted the awards on Daniel's behalf (who was then away in Australia), wearing a mask with Daniel's face over his head as a joke. A photo of him with the mask appeared in a issue of 8 Days and posed a question over Young's true identity, leading Daniel to ask listeners to call and sms in to petition for Young to be featured on 8 Days. A Facebook group petitioning for Young to be featured was also created by a listener.
  • Apart from hosting her regular weekend afternoon show, Miss Vendetta (Vanessa Fernandez) also helms the afternoon shift during weekdays from 1pm to 4pm playing mostly non-stop music.

[edit] Controversy over the supposed leaving of Mister Young

  • There had been rumours about either Dan or Young leaving the show.
  • After Mister Young's departure, a huge number of listeners called in asking about Young, some even demanding that he be brought back. According to Daniel Ong, the response was overwhelming to the extent that the 987FM email department was flooded with mail. SMSes asking about Mister Young were also vast.
  • Surprisingly, Young was a guest DJ along with 987FM DJ Desiree Lai at the Maybelline Cosmetics Fair on 14 July 2007. He attended the event and even reported 'live' on 987FM.
  • Mister Young left on 11 July 2007 abruptly and was replaced by Miss Vendetta on the 'Dan and Young Show', which was renamed as the 'Dan and Ven Show'. His leaving has sparked off some controversy. Mister Young was temporarily substituted by Miss Vendetta on the then 'Dan and Ven Show' while he was away in Langkawi. Young returned to 987FM on 16th July 2007. The show was later renamed to 'The Dan and Young Show' once again.
  • Eventually, it was revealed that none of them were required to leave 987FM. However, they were moved into the morning slot (5am to 10am), from their slot in the evening (4pm to 8pm) as stated in MediaCorp Publishing's 8 Days Magazine.
