[edit] MinWin
Please discuss this dispute about "Windows 7's MinWin" being different from "Eric Traut's MinWin" at Talk:Windows 7 before continuing to edit Windows 7 with this alleged difference as your reasoning. Also, it would be appreciated if you could point out at what point in one of the videos they say that the two are different. You seem to be confused by people pointing out that the Windows 7's MinWin, which Eric Traut demonstrated is different from something else (Server Core) that was also called MinWin years ago. - Josh (talk | contribs) 05:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I second this request. -/- Warren 06:30, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Not confused at all. Erik and the Server core thing are not the same thing ... Mark's review is clearly the defact face to that .. suggest you re-review his video.
- Yes, Eric's MinWin and Server Core are not the same thing. However, you do seem to be confused, as you're using this as rationale to remove information about Eric's MinWin from the Windows 7 article, which has nothing to do with Server Core. In review:
-
- Windows 7 MinWin is the same as Eric Traut's MinWin.
- Windows 7 MinWin is NOT the same as Server Core.
- Eric Traut's MinWin is NOT the same as Server Core.
- Windows 7 MinWin belongs in the Windows 7 article. (Because it's about Windows 7)
- Eric Traut's MinWin belongs in the Windows 7 article. (same as above)
- Server Core does NOT belong in the Windows 7 article. (Because Server Core has nothing to do with Windows 7. Note that no-one tried to write about Server Core in the Windows 7 article.)
- Sorry for the redundancy, but I'm just trying to explain everything single thing we might be confused about. - Josh (talk | contribs) 07:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Probably you are confused because of Paul's earlier confusion. In these two articles (which he published after Eric's demo claiming that Eric's MinWin was nothing new) Paul was misguided and wrong. But then Mark's video confirmed that Eric's MinWin was different from Paul's MinWin (which is now Server Core) and spelt out the differences betn the two (see the 2nd para in Windows 7#MinWin which states the differences). Mark then went on to discuss the same MinWin which Eric had demoed sometime back. After that Paul acknowldged his mistake and that server core and Windows 7 MinWin (which he refers to as MinWin/7) are indeed different, and went dug inside MinWin/7 (the info unearthed by that article matches with the Mark video and Eric demo). Paul, Mark and Eric are all now on the same wavelength and talking about the same MinWin - the same MinWin we are discussing in the Windows 7 article. --soum talk 17:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- actually i am not confused at all, please stop suggesting I am the one confused. Eric, Mark and the server minwin are not the same topic but have the same name. The desription in the article now has too much blend of all three areas and need to be removed. At this time only Mark's video/discussion represents Win7 and the other details (regarding # of files, file size etc) are not relevant to that NOR have applicable use in this article. Until we clear this up i will remove the erik's reference.
