78th Academy Awards nominees and winners

The nominees for the 78th Academy Awards were announced on January 31, 2006 by Academy president Sid Ganis and actress Mira Sorvino, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in the Academy's Beverly Hills headquarters. The winners were announced March 5 at a ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Films that won multiple Oscars include: Crash, Brokeback Mountain, Memoirs of a Geisha, and King Kong (all winning three awards apiece).
