Hi. I have reverted your edit of removing the external link, my explaination was in the edit summary. On the linked page, WP:HOWTO, it only referred to the articles themselves, not the external links. Meanwhile, WikiHow articles don't have to link to how-tos, WikiHow articles are how-tos, and WikiHow can also link to Wikipedia. Many Wikipedia articles link to unencyclopedic websites with context that wouldn't be allowed on Wikipedia itself (eg. POV, censorship, how-to guides, etc). Although promotional and spam-type links usually wouldn't be allowed in external links, I don't really see why this particular link should not be there. However, please feel free to discuss, or remove it if there is something in WP:EL that prohibits this. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 20:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Well, does that mean that the articles should not contain links that are not unique and the information in those links would be found anyway in the article itself if it became a featured article, or does it mean that it should not link to websites that are not unique and contains information that would not be found in the article? I think this is rather confusing. If it is the former, then a how-to should be allowed per that rule as it would not be found in a featured article. However, if it is the latter, as you suggest, then this would be rather self-contradictory, as it can't really be both unique and also contain the information that would be found in a featured article at the same time. In order to be unique, it would have to contain information not found in the article (as far as I know), but to contain information that would be in the article anyway, that contradicts the first part. Also, did you mean a link from Wikipedia to Wikihow, or a link from Wikihow to such a how-to astrophotography site? If it is the former, then why wouldn't a non-wiki howto be allowed, while a wiki howto is (which is probably less accurate than the non-wiki how to anyway)? If you meant the latter, Wikihow can contain links to how-to websites, yes, as references, but it can also contain links to Wikipedia articles, which can be used as an external link. If nessecary I might ask the talkpage of the EL to see what the first rule of the avoidance actually means. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 20:23, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
