[edit] Edits to other people's comments on talk pages
Hi. I just wanted to let you know about a couple of conventions here for talk page discussions. You made this edit to the Jim Geeting talk page which included altering a comment I had made. Our convention on talk pages isn't the same as for writing articles. On talk pages we treat it as a conversation like an online forum. If someone has misstated something correct it in your own comment ("I think you'll find Geeting's first books were published by McKenna Publishing Group."), rather than changing the words of someone else. We tend even to frown on copy editing someone else's comments on a talk page.
Also, on talk pages (but never on articles themselves!) we "sign" comments by adding four tildas (~~~~) at the end - this makes the software add your account name and a time/date stamp which helps other readers follow a conversation and understand how fresh/old it is.
Finally, though nothing to do with talk pages, all editors are encouraged to create an account. This will allow you to pick a name to edit under (your real one or a pseudonym) and will help you build an identity and communicate with others on Wikipedia. At the moment you're editing from a plain IP address which others may also access and use (hence the disclaimer just below). Just a couple of pointers. Don't worry if you don't manage to follow them all the time, it won't matter occasionally. Happy editing! -- SiobhanHansa 12:24, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

| | This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
