[edit] Stallion vs. Judge

I walk a lonely road The only one that I have ever known Don’t know where it goes But it’s only me And I walk alone

Standing alone in his bedroom is not Stallion, or Royal Knight, or any other gimmick character. Standing alone is Mason Scheer. He stands looking out across the books scattered in his room. Wrestling biographies of Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, the Hardy Boyz, and every other icon from the 1990’s. On his bed is his laptop, opened up to Microsoft Word. The screen is blank, with the cursor blinking at the starting position. Mason looks at the empty word document

I was taken in when I was 14 years old. Not even old enough to enjoy most of life’s pleasures, you accepted me as one of your own.

Mason sits down on his bed, positioning the laptop across his lap. The arrow continues to blink, with no words on the screen. Mason looks at the computer, reflecting on his past

I started my career in 2004 under your guidance. I came to you as nothing more than a wide-eyed kid, not knowing the crazy world I was getting into. You saw something in me, something very special that no one else did. You saw talent, you saw drive, and you saw desire.

I came to you wanting to be a part of PCW. You found a way to let me into your world, and join your great company. It felt like an honor to me, and you right away gave me a place. I wasn’t the big guy in charge, or even the biggest player, but you made me feel welcome.

You made me feel like I had a friend.

Mason looks at his empty screen, and starts typing. Each letter appears an instant after it is typed, the words becoming recognizable after a few clicks of the keyboard. But as soon as they are typed, they are instantly erased. Mason looks frustrated at the keyboard, not knowing what to say

And it wasn’t just when it came to wrestling.

I turned to a group of complete strangers, asking for help with my life and making me happy. I was lonely, and I wanted what I thought to be the girl of my dreams. Every single one told me to forget about her, and to let her go. Other fish in the sea, but none would make me as happy.

Not you, though.

You gave me the same advice then that you always would give me: Just go for it. Don’t worry about the consequences, because you’ll never know unless you try. So I went for it, and was with her for two years. I was happy, at least for the most part. You were the only person to encourage me to do what I thought was right.

Mason begins typing again, pressing Enter after a few lines

Don’t it always seem to go That you don’t know what you’ve got Till it’s gone

A year went by, and you were gone from PCW. I soon followed you out. Not by quitting, but by just not showing up to work anymore. The moment you left, my inspiration went with you. I couldn’t figure it out, not for the life of me. Then it hit me. Suddenly, it all made sense to me.

The only reason I had fun in PCW was because of you.

Mason looks up from his keyboard. The cursor blinks at the end of the words. Mason presses enter, moving to the next line

Sorry guys, but I need someone to cover this match for me

I was making you proud, and I was doing something that I felt good about. The moment you left, all I was doing was something I felt good about but after a while, I stopped feeling good about it. Everything began to fall apart, and I had nowhere to turn.

Mason stops typing, and rests his head in his balled up hand. He looks off in the distance, closing his eyes as the memories flood back to him

So I took a break from wrestling. You leaving made me lose passion for it all completely. I stopped watching RAW, I stopped checking for spoilers online, I just stopped caring. I stopped caring about the thing I as a teenage boy nearly obsessed about. From 2005-2006, I honestly felt like my love of wrestling was nothing more than a phase.

I tried getting that feeling back, but without you there it felt like a lost cause. I did XPW, for the few weeks it was there. I browsed around as much I could, but nothing gave me that feeling back. Nothing made me return to where I once felt. I started thinking that part of my life was over.

Then I hear about WPW.

Mason returns his focus to the screen, his eyes a bit blurry from the quick change. He starts typing again

Wrestler: The Stallion

And I see who’s running the show

Hometown: Dallas, Texas

I’m 16 years old, and I haven’t seen RAW for months. I see the second show for WPW, and it instantly takes me back. I go back to years, and everything in the world seems right again. Little by little, I get back into it. I start watching the television shows again, and start to re-learn everything I knew as a 12 year old boy.

But everything wasn’t right.

Mason starts typing faster and faster, knowing now what he wants to say

I just can’t do this anymore. What’s the point of going on?

I will gladly self admit that I am prone to burn-out. If I start feeling that way, I stop feeling the passion that drives me, and I end up just running through the motions. I wasn’t going anywhere professionally, and it started to hit me that I would never make it. I kept losing, and getting worse, and my writing suffered. And I quit a week after Thanksgiving, for the very first time.

…Internet problems…Can’t do it…I’m sorry…

But you were there, almost waiting for me. I told you how I felt, and you made me feel better. Then you said that one thing that to this very day brings a tear to my eye.

You called me your protégée

Mason stops typing. His hands leave the laptop, and he runs his hands through his hair. He sighs deeply, and he starts to tear up

You said that you and I had father-son moments, and at that moment, I knew I wasn’t alone. I didn’t look up to you as a hero by myself. You saw me as your next of kin, and someone who you could turn into a success story. I had an idol who was my icon, a hero who was my friend, and more than anything, I had someone who I wanted to be.

Mason moves the computer off his lap, and stands up off the bed. He looks out towards his window, looking past the posters he has on his wall. A poster of various wrestlers, such as the Rock and Stone Cold. Mason looks out the window, with the people’s champ in the corner of his eye

When you’re 12 years old, all you want to do when you get older seems like a dream. Boys only have a few dreams: fireman, police officer, astronaut, or professional wrestler. That was me. I didn’t care that I was never the athlete of my family, I wanted to be a wrestler. But once that boy gets older, the dreams go away, and the dream slips away.

Unless you have the right inspiration.

Mason looks away from the window, his eyes full of tears

I wanted to be just like you, as crazy as that sounds. My dream job is to be a writer, to work for the world renowned company of wrestling entertainment. I want to be a character, and write the stories, and do everything that I’ve seen you do for the past four years now.

I looked up to you, because you were there when I needed you. I can’t think of any other person you spent so much time trying to help. I felt like I was so special in your eyes.

You helped me with my self-confidence, and would take the time out of your day, no matter what was going on, to help me. And I would do the same to you, you know I would.

So what did I do?

When I needed you more than anything, you weren’t there. My world fell apart, I was hitting bottom, and you weren’t there to break my fall. You didn’t care anymore.

Then you were gone. Completely gone, without even saying goodbye. I needed you here, and you left me. What did I do? What made it so that you had to turn your back on me? What did I do?

The phrase always was to step up or step aside. Step up of step aside, and what happened? My friends turned their backs on me, and I asked you for your help and you weren’t there for me.

You stepped aside! So I guess that means I have to step… up…

Mason wipes the tears away from his eyes, as if everything makes sense to him now. He shakes his head, as if he refuses to believe it

So was that your big plan? Was that what this was all about? Your last little life lesson to pass on to me? Well fine. So be it. You want me to finally step up, I’ll do it. And I’ll do the one thing that proves it.

I’ll face you one on one in the center of the ring come Redemption. We’ll have no gimmicks, and no friends in the back. Just you, against, just me. Let’s see how much you’ve really taught me.

I credit you with giving me life in wrestling. I consider you to be the most influential person in my life. I was accepted into college because of you. You’ve been there every step of my life for the past four years. I always wanted to make you proud.

So here’s my chance.

Mason returns to his bed, wiping the remaining tears from his eyes. He returns the computer to his lap, and begins writing
