2018 Asian Games

The 2018 Asian Games (also known as the XVIII Asiad) is the largest sporting event in Asia and is governed by Olympic Council of Asia. The selection process yet begin, however several countries already announced their interest in bidding this Games.

After bowed out in a bidding to India for 2014 Asian Games, Vietnam are looking forward to hosting the 2018 event in Hanoi. Nguyen Hong Minh, vice president of Vietnam Olympic Committee said they have credibility in hosting the big events after successful organized the 2003 Southeast Asian Games and also APEC meeting in November 2006. Minh added the 11 years span between 2007 and 2018 will allow the improvement of country's sport infrastructure.[1]

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) plans to bid for the 2018 Asian Games in the capital city of Manila. The country was the former host of 1954 Asian Games and has successfully hosted the Southeast Asian Games in 1981,1991 and 2005 and also will host again in 2019.[2]So far, Manila bids for 2018 has a better chance to became one of the candidate city to host the 2018 Asian Games. Also, Manila was planning to construct a new multi-sports stadium along Manila Reclamation Area for Asian Games.

The Singapore Sports Council is considering bid to host the 2018 Asian Games after the city-nation had secure several mega sporting events like Formula One and will host the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and 2013 Southeast Asian Games. Singapore is also in the development of Sports Hub which expected to be open in 2011.[3]

President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah said Dubai is considering to bid for 2018 event. Previously, Dubai is bidding for 2014 event, however they withdrew because "not seriously considering this matter".[4]
