The 2014 Summer Youth Olympics (officially known as 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games) will be the second in a series of Youth Olympic Games, a major international sports and cultural festival to be celebrated in the tradition of the Summer Olympic Games, in summer 2014.
The IOC has not yet announced the bidding guidelines, but cities are already announcing their intention to bid.
[edit] Potential bids
The 2014 host city will be elected during the 2010 IOC session in Vancouver, prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Besides Moscow, other short list cities such as Athens, Greece, Turin, Italy, and Bangkok, Thailand may try again.
Belgrade, Serbia
Belgrade showed initial interest in bidding for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, going so far to attend the initial workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland at the IOC headquarters. However, the city withdrew, declaring an intention to bid for the second edition instead.[1]
Moscow, Russia
Moscow was the finalist along with eventual winner Singapore in the contest for the 2010 YOG. Moscow declared it would bid for future editions.[2]
New Delhi, India
Citing the experience it will have gained in hosting the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi has declared the intention to bid for the 2014 Games, as well as possibly the 2020 edition of the "senior" Games.[3]. However, if India wins the bid for the 2014 Youth games, it is unlikely that a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics be successful, as it would have been only 6 years since an Olympic event was held in New Delhi.
