2-12-2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, a 2-12-2 locomotive has two leading wheels, twelve driving wheels and two trailing wheels.

Other equivalent classifications are:
UIC classification: 1F1 (also known as German classification and Italian classification)
French classification: 161
Turkish classification: 68
Swiss classification: 6/8

This wheel arrangement is infrequently called "Javanic", after the use of large 2-12-2Ts in Java.
