- Alain Prost eclipsed the previous record for most F1 World Championship victories (27, held by Jackie Stewart) at this race.
- The race was stopped after a crash on the first lap and restarted over the original distance. Danner didn't take part in the second start.
- Numbers in brackets refer to positions of normally-aspirated entrants competing for the Jim Clark Trophy.
