Talk:1976 Prime Minister's Resignation Honours

[edit] Date clarification

The Times reported the Honours on 27 May 1976 (p.2) with the comment that "the following list of honours on Sir Harold Wilson's resignation is published in The London Gazette" but the official publication date in the Gazette is 2 June, Supplement to 1 June. I dont know why there is this difference - presumably advance copies are sent to the press. Also, newspapers publish the lists divided into sub-sections which aren't mentioned in the Gazette, maybe they are taken from a press release from the Cabinet Office or suchlike. --mervyn (talk) 18:14, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

That's cvertainly basically what happens in termas of New Year and Birthday Honours - embargoes copies are supplied to the Press in advance, so it would make sense if somehting similar happened with Resigination Honours. Haven't quit worked it out, but there could well ahve been a bank Holiday around then too, which would probably affect Gazette publication more than the rest of the press.
