Fair use rationale for Image:Gatoshot.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Gatoshot.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 02:12, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for making the vector version of my original .png image. It looks fine! The only suggestion I have is about the black lines that expand the nucleus to the inset expanded view of the nucleus: Could you make each line be a white line adjacent to a black line. That way when the lines are deep in the dark electron cloud they will still be visible and when they are far away on a black background they again are visible. In your current image the black lines disappear as they go deeply into the electron cloud. Thanks again! FrankH 04:41, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Howe (surname)

Wow, that was quick, fixing the bolding! However, please to not pick up the habit of adding the disambig tag or hndis tag to surname or given name articles [such as Hart (given name)]. That changes them from articles to dab pages (which are not articles, but navigation pages). Such lists of people share a given name or surname, but do not share the same whole name, so the natural article titles are different, and they need no disambiguation (in the true Wikipedia sense). They are also not required to conform to [[MoS:DP). You may notice that I'm changing a whole lot of pages the other way (Houk, for example). I could use some help, if this interests you. Happy editing! Chris the speller 16:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Historical Maps of Sweden

Hi Yzmo!

I saw your nice maps of the Swedish Empire and have two questions:

1 Do you have more maps on the history, e.g. from 1000 to 2000?

2 Is it possible to see them one by one? I am to stupid to seperate them, i.e. if I want to copy them to a Word document I only get the first map.

Thanks!

svenskhistoria, 17 June 2007

Hi, svenskhistoria well, the point is that i didnt really make those maps, i just edited them :) they had some watermarks and stuff like that in in them before.. :) But.. thats the only thing i did to them, so, i dont have more of those maps, sry :( Although, you could try to contact the original creator..

Anyway, if you want to seperate them, open them in an image program like Adobe Photoshop, The GIMP, or Paint Shop Pro, i think there are also some other which will work.. personally, i recommend the GIMP cause its free, and pretty good :D, good luck with it Yzmo talk 14:15, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Norwayb.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Norwayb.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Durrum D-500 edits

A few weeks ago, you modified my article ono the D-500 Amino Acid Analyzer (AAA).

In doing so, youi deleted a section of information about the PDP-8 computer, the brains of the AAA.

Your comment was that PDP-8 had an article of it's own -- that is true.

However, some of the info I presented was not available on the PDP-8 page

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:MB2_Bpbar.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jusjih (talk) 04:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Pontillo [1]

I guess you didn't see the other page the user created that was utter nonsense but a close read of this article suggested to me that it was also utter bilge (and that's five minutes of my life I want back). I have deleted it. I'm leaving the note because you tagged it for wikification and cleared the yellow flag. I think you might have been better off tagging it for deletion. Spartaz Humbug! 19:05, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, it looked alright.. and a small google on that name suggested he existed.. but meh.. do u think i should be more generous with the db tags in the future..
I can't say. I haven't looked at your editing. I'm probably not the best person to ask that of anyway. I'm undoubtedly more deletionist then the norm. I just wanted to alert you that there had been a problem with the article. Spartaz Humbug! 19:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Ahh, ok, well.. ill double check my NPP edits next time ;). Thx for telling me! Yzmo talk 19:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
  • I just had a look through your new page tagging today. Zoltan Glass was a copyvio [2]; Constantine Pegge doesn't assert notability and is almost certainly not notable enough for an article. I have deleted under A7. Damion Green is notable; and Louise Caselotti doesn't assert notability and is arguably an A7 speedy but the creater is an established editor and I agree that we should give the article time to develop. I will leave the author a note. So, in the 4 articles I looked at there were two cases you might have inserted speedy tags, another qualified for a tag but you were right to give the article time to grow. Please don't take this the wrong way, NNP isn't as easy as it seems at first glance but I thought you might appreciate some feedback. Based on this I'd say you possibly need to bone up on the notability guidelines but I'm also hesitent to encourage you to disregard the potential for articles to develop and even as a deletionist I worry that we allow articles to be too easily discarded at times. I'd also suggest that you stuck a BLP tag on the talk page of any articles you see that are for living people. It makes it much easier to track potential BLP problems if we know what articles are BLP and what are not. Spartaz Humbug! 20:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Ahh, thats for the feedback, it's very much appreciated :D. But, how do i figure out if things are copyvios? Google a part of the article? And sometimes it really hard to see if somethibg is notable aswell.. but i think ill get the hang of it.. since ive never done some serious NPP before.. just tagging obvious spam pages with db-spam and such. Yzmo talk 21:51, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
That's the spirit. Long well written text like that is invariably a copyvio. Just find a short phrase with no markup and google it. If you want some advice or help with NPP, just leave a note on my talk page - I'm generally around or lurking if i'm not busy on something else. Cheers. Spartaz Humbug! 20:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

List of highways numbered 101

Hello. Just wanted to let you know that I removed the British Columbia shield you added to the list of highways numbered 101. Unfortunately, British Columbia holds the copyright on their shields, unlike in the United States, where they are released into the public domain. That means we can only use the image for illustrating the article about the actual route, not as an icon in the highways list. You can find more details at Wikipedia:Non-free content. Just a note to bare in mind in rating articles

I personally know nothing about the game in question, but development sections in a game article are not necessary for getting higher ratings. We have FA game articles that don't have them simply because no information for development exists. They are preferable, but not required. -- Sabre (talk) 14:44, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Gatoshot.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gatoshot.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Infoboxes

Hi. Once again I'm asking if there is anyway to link two or more preset infoboxes, such as "Infobox musical artist" and "Infobox actor," so that they appear as one. Jimknut (talk) 15:22, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Nope.. u'd have to make a new infobox. Yzmo talk 20:08, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:VG Assessment

Hey there,

You recently assessed an article via WP:VG/A, List of Super Nintendo Entertainment System games. While the way you assessed it is correct, and I agree with your classification, it is the custom at WP:VG to make assessments more than just a 'rating'. Most regular assessors create a new section on the talk page, where they list very specific point-by-point tips for improvement. WP:VG is a very high achieving project (check the recent signpost article), and our principal way of doing that is providing dedicated editors with suggestions and feedback all the way to FA. For the article, there's more than enough points to discuss. If you're new to the assessment process as a whole, I'd suggest you give it a try and post some suggestions on Talk:List of Super Nintendo Entertainment System games.

Feel free to ask me any questions. If you have any questions on the assessment process in general after reading the above, maybe the talk page of WP:VG/A is a better venue than my talk page. It's on my watchlist too. User:Krator (t c) 18:26, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
