[edit] Justifications for content inclusion

There are such things as "the most prestigious venues," and the fact that he has given recitals in them is entirely verifiable. Also, Schnittke, Kancheli, etc., are in fact some of the most prominent contemporary composers, and this could be backed up with (if you really really want to) academic citations. --Quadalpha 18:40, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment of previous edits

No problem. Bashmet is obviously prominent, no debate. Schnittke is so prominent that surely the fact speaks for itself, although I'm not so sure about the whole list ... do we really need to hit the reader over the head with the prominence of everyone? I thought the 'prestigious venues' bit was unnecessary as I don't imagine as the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, etc playing in the local church hall. If you look at all the articles in Wikipedia which say 'X is one of the leading ...' you quickly get the impression that it is a phrase used principally in vanity articles; the articles for truly prominent people don't need that sort of extra 'help'. Anyhow, do as you see fit with the article. Just a suggestion from a newcomer to this whole thing. DogsBreakfast 12:52, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Opinionated content

I don't get this. Whether Mr. Bashmet was previously "dashing" and whether it has since deteriorated is a matter of personal taste and judgment, why is such opinionated statement included in a musician's biopiece on wikipedia?? --James, of Cambridge, Mass. -- The previous unsigned comment was added by 65.96.167.224 on 27 January 2007

[edit] Commencing cleanup

I am undertaking, in stages, the cleanup of the Yuri Bashmet page. This will include adding internal links, wikification of format, and editing out subjective language. -- Deborahjay 00:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
