Yuejiaquan (岳家槍, literally Yue Family Spear, alternately yuè jia qiang, yue ch'uan, Yue-family Chuan, Yue-family spear technique) is a martial art of Chinese origin. It was founded and developed by Yue Fei, and passed down generations after his death. It was taught mostly to soldiers, probably because of being simple and direct. It contains mostly military-oriented attacks, and is based primarily upon the principles of combining internal and external techniques, theory and application. Its various tricks stem from its principal philosophy of the positive and negative and the five elements of the heart, liver, lung, spleen and kidney in the human body.
[edit] In popular culture
- The character Tanya from Mortal Kombat series uses Yuejiaquan as her primary fighting style.
[edit] The Martial Art
- Yue Jia Quan is still being taught by a student of Grandmaster and current keeper of the art, Low Yoke Lian who resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Yue Jia Quan has been kept traditionally, unaltered from its pure form within the Low family for 11 generations.
