Yuan Tian was born in China where she began her musical studies at a young age, learning the piano from her mother and music theory from her father. She enrolled at the Central Conservatory of Music at age 9. She also attended and graduated from Indiana University School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory and attained her Artist diploma in piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She was the winner of the Aspen Music Festival Academy Piano competition and took second place in the Rachmaninoff Concerto Competition.
