"You Gotta Be" is a song recorded by the British pop and soul singer Des'ree. It was the first single from her second album I Ain't Movin.

It was released several times : first in 1994, then in 1995, 1996 in a remixed version. The single was also re-released in 1998, following the success of the previous singles "Life" and "Kissing You". Although it was the remake of a disc already released as a single, the single was charted again and peaked #14 in UK. The 1995 release reached #5 in the United States and is the most popular version of the song.

In Italy, the song was very popular because it was chosen as the soundtrack of some TV adverts, including those of Breil in 1996 and Ford Focus of 2000[1]. In Australian around the early 2000s, this song was used in a Westpac bank.

The song remained for 26 weeks on ARC Weekly Top 40, which was a feat at the time (see List of ARC Weekly Top 40 chart achievements and trivia).

The music video is in black and white. In 1995, it was nominated in the category of "Best Female Video" in the MTV Video Music Awards, but did not win.
