[edit] The Five Tibetans
I question the veracity of including this content in an article on Yoga series. Technically, the Tibetans are not Yoga... 30 sep 2007 11:27 69.37.164.141
- It depends on what you choose to be yoga. Please watch the following:
- First rite: derwishes alike, indeed not contemporary, nor ancient yoga, but sufi
- Second rite: hatha yoga poses Savasana (Dead Pose) and Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose / Reversed Action)
- Third rite: hatha yoga poses two Ustrasana (Camel) variations
- Fourth rite: hatha yoga poses Dandasana (nl) (staff) Katushpada Pitham (nl) (Reversed Table)
- Fifth rite: hatha yoga poses Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Dog) and Adho Mukha Svanasana (nl) (Downward Dog)
- This combined with the fact that hatha yoga undone of the philosophy of raja yoga still remains to be yoga, one cannot but conclude that the Five Tibetans are a kind of yoga.
- Other thing that has to be taken notice of, is that virtually all guru's (Iyengar, Savananda, Yogananda, John Friend, name it) develop own yoga styles that are all called yoga, except for Pilates. The difference seems to be what the inventor calls it. Not so much whether there is a deep kind of philosophy aspect. A kind of kundalini aspect is present in the Five Tibetans, although it is called differently: it's called rejuvenation by Kelder. So I view that it surely is yoga, but just one another kind.
