Aluf Yoav Galant (b. 1958) is the commander of the Israel Defense Forces Southern Command.
Born in Jaffa, Israel, Galant received a B.A. in Economics and Finance Management from the University of Haifa. He began his military career in 1977 as a naval commando, in the unit called Flotilla 13. In the late 1990s Galant moved into land forces, eventually getting the rank of a Maj. Gen. while becoming the Military Secretary of the Prime Minister and later commander of the Southern Command.
