Yael Goldstein (born 1978), an American novelist and essayist, is the daughter of prominent quantum physicist Sheldon Goldstein and novelist/philosopher Rebecca Goldstein. She was raised as an Orthodox Jew, and writes movingly and originally about losing her faith in the essay "When God is Your Favorite Writer", which was anthologized in the collection Who We Are: On Being (and Not Being) a Jewish American Writer. Her first novel,Overture, was released by Doubleday in early 2007. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, critic Wendy Smith compares the young novelist to her critically-acclaimed mother in favorable terms: "Both Goldsteins write fiction deeply involved with intellect and ideas, warmed by sensitively delineated emotions and propelled by strong storytelling. Overture establishes Yael Goldstein as a writer with a distinctive voice of her own, while paying graceful tribute to the family literary tradition."
