This template is used to add a box at the top of a years page in order to make it easier to navigate around the timeline.

After copying the following onto the page

you must enter values after the = sign.
in?= (optional) If the page is "XXXX in music" then put: in?=in music. Omitting this parameter will suppress the "Year in XXXX" row
cp= The century previous to the one the page is in. cp=[[20th century]] for 2004
c= The century the page is in. c=[[21st century]] for 2004
cf= The century following the one the page is in. cn1=[[22nd century]] for 2004
yp1=
yp2= These 3 are the 3 decades previous to the one the page is in.
yp3=
year= Page year
ya1=
ya2= These 3 are the 3 years following the page.
ya3=
dp3=
dp2= These 3 are the 3 decades previous to the one the page is in.
dp1=
d= The decade the page is in. d=[[2000s]] for 2004.
dn1=
dn2= These 3 are the 3 decades following the one the page is in.

These two boxes look exactly the same, but the first one has in?= in aviation so the first line lists the links to the appropriate "Year in Topic" pages.

[edit] Enhancement proposal
I would like to add in2? and in3? parameters so that I can replace Template:TV years header with this template and be able to link to film, television, and home video. Any objections or comments? This shouldn't affect any current usage so I can't see there being much objection. Cburnett 16:46, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- I know I didn't wait a long time for feedback but I went ahead and did it. See 2006 in film, 2006 in home video, and 2006 in television for usage. Cburnett 14:44, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
