Needs to be translated: Köklü bir tarih, genç bir ilçe, cennetin güzel meyvelerini kıskandıran kiraz bolluğu ve misafirperverlik... Mardin merkezinin kuzeydoğusunda yer alan Yeşilli, doğanın cömertçe oluşturduğu yemyeşil bir vadinin içinde mesire yerleriyle ün salmış bir ilçemizdir. Romalılar devrinde yapılmış su kanalları, çeşmeler, bentler ve değirmenler görülmeye değerdir. Bahçe kültürü son derece gelişkin olan ilçede yeşillikler içinde kasırlara rastlamak mümkündür.

2000 yılı Genel Nüfus Sayımına göre ilçenin nüfusu 30.000'dir. İlçeye bağlı kasaba belediyeleri ve köylerin nüfusu 2.337'tür. Mevcut nüfusun %93'ü şehir merkezinde geriye kalan %7'si ise kırsal kesimde yaşamaktadır. Yörenin geçim kaynağı tarımsal ürünlere ve nakliyeciliğe dayalıdır.
