Yakov Permyakov (Пермяков, Яков in Russian) (unknown - died in 1712) was a Russian seafarer, merchant, and Cossack.
In 1710, while sailing from the Lena River to the Kolyma River, Permyakov observed two unknown islands in the sea, that would later be called Bolshoy Lyakhovsky and Medvezhiy. In 1712, he and his companion M.Vagin crossed the area from the mouth of Yana to Bolshoy Lyakhovsky Island over the ice and explored it. On the way back, Permyakov was killed by his rebellious cossacks. The cossacks then lead his dead body down to the ice, and lit it on fire, no one knows what the dangerous cossacks did with the ashes, but they do know that he was never seen again.
