[edit] Speedy deletion of The 16' Club

A tag has been placed on The 16' Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Deadly∀ssassin 02:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Erm, hello DeadlyAssassin. The page is simply to change the reference to the Club on the "Pitt Club" page from red to blue, because given that the Club predates other Wiki-listed similar clubs it seemed high-time for a page to be created about the 16' Club. It would also quell harmful rumours about the Club in this part of the world. --XVI Chancer (talk) 02:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I now see that it is the issue of 'notability' that is the cause for this deletion request. Is the assurance that I would be adding the more detailed references to the Codex (published by the Club), Yr Esgbob Burgess A Choleg Llanbedr (D.T.W. Price, University of Wales Press) and A History of St David's University College (D.T.W. Price, University of Wales Press)? This seems to satisfy the requirements for the deletion to be halted.

  • Hi Chancer - Just so the record's clear, I'm not an admin so I don't delete articles, but when something doesn't establish the notability any regular editor (like me or you) can tag something for deletion and an admin can make a decision. My recommendation would be to create the article in your namespace so that you can develop it to the point where you can show notability before moving it to the main area. That way you don't run the risk of deletion requests. To show notability you need to explain why it is important in the real world and ideal show some references to reliable 3rd party sources of information (newspapers, magazines, bbc, etc). The book you mention sounds like it would qualify too. You should try to find some other information on the web, because quite often people will google a new article and if there isn't anything that pops up they may go ahead and tag for deletion. Hope that helps. --Deadly∀ssassin 03:03, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Sorry one final point from me. In future, if you want to have some time to explain why an article should be kept, you can add a {{holdon}} tag below the CSD request (remember not to delete the deletion request) and explain on the talk page of your article. You will usually be given time by an admin to clean up your article before it is deleted. --Deadly∀ssassin 03:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
    • By the way, I saw that you placed a {{hangon}} tag here rather than on the page The 16' Club. I would have moved the hangon tag to where it was supposed to go as a courtesy, but The 16' Club had already been deleted by then. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:20, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
