[edit] Upper Silesian Industry Area
Hello. I have certain misgivings about your recent edits here:
- The article describes what is known in Polish as the GZW, not GOP, as you asserted in your mistaken interwiki link change. Just consider the content of the introduction and the scope of the table of constituent regions of the described area. Clearly it includes Rybnik and environs, and clearly it talks about the area inhabited by 3.5 mln people, not 2.8 -- which would be the smaller Katowice region known in Polish as GOP.
- Adding 20,000 characters is not a minor edit. Yet you marked it as such, and did not provide a summary of your edits. You often neglect to describe your edits.
- Your recent additions seem to pertain to the Katowice metropolitan area only. There are no churches, roads, airports, etc. from the Rybnik area. I think you may be confused as to what belongs in this article.
If you have trouble understaning English, I can write in Polish. Feel free to reply below on this page, since I am watching your talk page. Thanks. --Mareklug talk 13:55, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
hi, in my understanding polish 'gop' is an area known in western europe as 'upper silesian industry area'. polish gzw is an strange and very old term describing the whole region (including rybnik ie) and it is related to industry rather than to agglomeration. that’s why i thought the interwiki link should be gop - upper silesian industry area. correct me if i am wrong. xlkce
- Well, for better or worse, the current article describes "the whole region (including rybnik)" -- exactly what on the Polish wikipedia the article about GZW describes: a metropolitan area of 3.5 mln people that includes Rybnik. So, until there is werifyiable evidence that the name "Upper Silesian Industry Area" should be applied to GOP and not to GZW, I suggest keeping the interwiki as is, since the articles on the various wikipedias currently linked talk about the same thing. Perhaps in the mean time, you should add an article on the English wikipedia for the GOP proper -- call it "Upper Silesian Industrial District" or "Greater Katowice Metropolitan Area"? --Mareklug talk 16:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
what about 'upper silesian area' (similar to the 'ruhr area' in english and german wiki)?
'upper silesian area' will contain both 'upper silesian industry area' (gop) and 'rybnik coal region' (row).
'row' as 'rybnik coal region' also sounds weird but this is how wiki translate it.
than the 'upper silesian area' could have just a short description of region and clear links to gop and row.
what do you think?
