Xingtai

Xingtai (simplified Chinese: 邢台; pinyin: Xíngtai) is a prefecture-level city in southern Hebei province, China. In 2004 it had an urban population of 561,400 and a total population of 6.73 million. It borders Shijiazhuang and Hengshui in the north, Handan in the south, and the provinces of Shandong and Shanxi in the east and west respectively.

The prefecture-level city of Xingtai, with a total area of 12,486 square kilometers, administers 2 districts, 2 county-level cities and 15 counties.

Xingtai is an ancient city in the northern China with a history of 3500 years. It was first built by King Zuyi (祖乙) of Shang Dynasty as its capital.

In the late 1990s Xingtai became the focus of attention for a local blood bank's use of blood contaminated with HIV, causing many residents to develop AIDS.[1]
