It is also interesting to note that the word "Toph" means "small drum" or "tamberine" in Hebrew, and thus may be an allusion to her ability to see by "feeling the beat" of vibrations. Also, on a highly speculative point, "Toph" may refer to Tophet, noted in the Bible as a city where pagan rituals involving human sacrifices were performed, usually as a burnt offering. If this allusion is true, it may give credibility to the rumor of Toph's eventual death, perhaps sacrificing herself to the Fire Nation in order to save her friends or other innocents.
