XCOPY deployment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

XCOPY deployment is a term used to describing installation of applications which can be deployed onto the end user system just by copying the executable files and associated resource or configuration files. As opposed to this form of deployment, certain Microsoft Windows applications require the configuration settings to be stored in Windows Registry. Such applications don't work just by copying, they require an extra registration step, where the required registry keys are created. Specialized installer systems, such as Windows Installer, are available for simplifying deployment of such applications.
