[edit] History

101.7 was originally put on the air roughly around May of 1985 as WOVU, licensed to Ocean View, DE. The station had an A/C format that stayed on the air for roughly four years until 1989. In 1989, Tony Q (current owner of 101.7-Kiss-FM-Wimington-DE) bought WOVU. The call letters were changed to WRKE and the name was changed to 101.7 Kiss-FM with a change to an Urban A/C format with a lean toward Soft Urban A/C (Love Songs). 101.7 Kiss-FM stayed on the air until 1998 when Tony Q sold the station to Great Scott Broadcasting.

GSB who had also bought 98.3 WSUX (moved up to 98.5 to increase from 3,000-6,000 watts) from the Connor family put on a Classic Hits Format, known as BIG-Classic Hits 98.5 & 101.7. The call letters for 101.7 were changed to WRBG to match the name of the station. In April of 2001, 101.7 WRBG was broken off and flipped to "Today's Hit Music B101-7". The call letters were changed to WZEB. The station was built to appeal to females 18-49. About 2 years later the station was paired with the 95.3 signal for greater coverage. B101-7 has had several names including B101-7 & 95-3, B95-3 (still simulcasted on 101-7), 101.7 & 95-3 The B to just "The B" (although once or twice an hour you'll hear the frequencies mentioned by the voiceover guy). The CHR format for the most part (However there was an attempt in 04/05 to take it more Hot A/C) was continued until late 2005/early 2006 when the station became a full time Hot A/C. However The B is more of a gold based Hot A/C especially with the 80s music. The B plays more than just the dance/rhythmic/retro 80s, you'll hear classic rock, soft rock & pop 80s as well. Currently "The B" plays "The Best of the 80's, 90's and Now" with Jeff and Karen in the Morning and features the very popular "All 80's Weekends." "The B" has over 1,000 80s songs. "The B" also features the "12 O'Clock Whatever" during the weekday lunchtime hour. It's an eclectic variety of music and requests from the late 60s, the 70s, 80s, 90s and Now. All throughout the time of The B's eexistance even going back to the B101-7 days, their voiceover guy is the very popular Brian Lee whose voice you can hear on NBC, The Weather Channel and A&E to mention just a few. The B also features the '5 O'Clock Traffic Jam' with nothing but upbeat hits and upbeat requests. The B carries VH1s Best Week Ever Radio Sunday nights at 10pm and the ET Radio Minute with Mary Hart each weekday at 11:58am.

The B has enjoyed recent ratings success as they have stayed the same with their formatics and settled into their niche in the market.
