Tilton, Georgia ia a very small comminity located North of Atlanta and South of Chattanooga just East of Interstate 75. The town was incorporated December 9, 1871 and thrived until 1900 when the Dixi Highway bypassed Tilton. The small town faded away and became a flag station for the railroad. My interest in Tilton stems from my grandfather who left Tilton as a teen with his Mother, Father and several brothers and sisters. They traveled by wagaon to East Texas, finally setteling in Mt Vernon, Texas. Three of his siblings are buried in Tilton, but there are no markers to show the exact location. Tilton had no newspaper and the Dalton paper covered the area. All histories of Whitfield county are on file at the Dalton library. wudkarver.
