I have moved this article from WPLG-TV to WPLG. Consensus on both WP:NC#Broadcasting and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations#Article_names is that the article name should reflect the actual call letters of the TV station. As can be seen here: [1] the call letters for this station are in fact WPLG. [edit] Channel 17 reference
This article makes reference to ABC being on Channel 17 prior to WPLG signing on in 1957. But in the market the Wikipedia says Channel 17 was WLRN-TV since 1955. Which one is correct? -- (Edited by azumanga 05:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC))

ABC was carried by WITV, Channel 17, (licensed to Hollywood, FL) for the 1 to 2 years of WITV's existence. WITV was noted for two things: Featuring popular singer Elaine Gay, and bikini-clad weather girl Maxine Barrat. When WPST came on the air, WITV lost the few viewers that it had, so it went off the air. Radio-TV Broadcasting in September 1958 lists WITV as having "suspended operations". The FCC Annual Report of 1995 lists WITV as having forfeited its license in 1961. With regard to WLRN, it came on the air in 1962 on Channel 17, owned by the Dade County School System. The School Board shared time on Channel 2 with the independent NET station, WTHS. WTHS would broadcast educational programming during the school day, and NET would take over in the evening. The Dade County School Board moved exclusively to channel 17 in 1978, turned over the license for Channel 2, and changed the calls for 17 to WLRN. User:biggoodie
[edit] WPLG "founded" in 1970
Recently, someone here mentioned that WLBW lost its license in October 1969, and did not return to the air until March 1970, when Post Newsweek acquired the station and reflagged it as WPLG. Is this true? If so, what's the source. I reverted this person's changes, as no source was given, and I always knew that P-N's acquisition was seamless. -- azumanga 02:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
WLBW's sale to Post-Newsweek and change from WLBW to WPLG was indeed seamless. It's when WPST's license was in jeopardy of being revoked (in 1961) by the FCC over the Richard A. Mack affair from National Airlines that the station went off of the air for a week, replaced by WLBW. User:biggoodie

Image:New local 10 logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
