Externally controlled power and pre-charge control for a 220V AC charger.
[edit] Theory of operation
When voltage is applied by starting the external charge controler (e.g. an ICS-200B or similar), Ry CP1 will pull in, disconnecting the controller pre-charge circuits (see the drawing image:WPEVCContactorCharge.png for a description of that circuit. Contact (3) will then apply power to Ry CP2, which is a heavy duty relay or motor contactor with sufficient contact power rating for the charger used.

- Ry CP1 is the primary charge control relay. Since in this case this drives another relay/contactor (Ry CP2) it may be of lighter duty than that shown elsewhere, which controls the charger input current directly.
- contacts (1) and (2) and F-PCP and F-PCN are portions of the controller of the pre-charge circuit and open to isolate the controller and motor during charging
- contact (3) controlls the main contactor Ry CP2
- Contacts (4) and (5) switch the input current to the charger and must be appropriately rated for the charger maximum current draw.
- F-CRP1 and F-CRP2 protect the light duty wiring to the relay coils and should be located at the inputs to Ry CP2
- R-CL 1 reduces the voltage from 220V AC to the relay coil voltage of 110V AC. Select resistor to drop 110 volts in this circuit. This will be greater than the relay coil resistance owing to the reactance of the coil. Not needed if relay operating voltage is 220 volts.
- R-CL 2 is voltage reduction for the main contactor, note above applies.
