Tip of the day...

Inserting a picture in an article

The syntax used for displaying an image is:

[[Image:{name}|{type}|{location}|{size}|{caption}]]

Only [[Image:{name}]] is required. The other details are optional and can be placed in any order. They are:

Type
'thumb' / 'thumbnail' or 'frame'. This causes image to be displayed with specific formatting. "thumb" is normally preferred.
Location
'right', 'left', 'center' or 'none'. Determines placement of the image on the page. "Left" or "right" is the norm, but large panoramas or timelines can be displayed in the center.
Size
{width}px or {width}x{height}px (e.g. 50x40px, would limit width to 50 and height to 40). Normally only one variable is used. Use common sense when determining the sizes; you can use the "Show preview" button if you need to.
Caption
Any element which cannot be identified as one of the above is automatically treated as caption text. It is traditional to put this last. The caption should identify what the image is, and ideally be a complete sentence that adds to the article by pointing out something a casual reader wouldn't have noticed otherwise, or add information the pertains to the image.

If you have a picture that isn't already in Wikipedia's image collection that you want to include in an article, you will need to upload it first.

My userpage, like my desk, is a messy place where I get work done, leave myself notes, shortcuts and a newspaper. I don't think I should apologise for this.

I think this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Charities_based_in_Australia )needs filling out a bit, perhaps with an official list, or this one: http://www.auscharity.org/charitieswebsites.html

[edit] Vandalism

If you are having trouble with a vandal report them to admin intervention and they'll take care of it. If it doesn't warrant a block you can just warn them as you feel appropriate. See the warning templates page for the codes. If they're obviously vandalizing don't be too nice with them, just go to a level 3 warning or so and then ask to have them blocked if they carry on.

[edit] Religiosity and intelligence

There have been a few calls to dissect Barnam Beckwith's meta analysis, to try to find useful data for this page. There have also been a number of people who said this was more work than they, themselves, wish to do. To assist someone to research this in more depth, I have done some of the initial legwork at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WotherspoonSmith/beckwith Emotional intelligence has also been raised. here's my sandbox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WotherspoonSmith/EI Anyone wanting to add links, make relevant comments, show that they have read the originals and found them relevant or irrelevant, be my guest. Anyone wanting to add pov, please don't. I'd prefer it if you'd use my general discussion page instead.

Some other studies, that may be relevant, but I haven't checked out yet: "These findings, again, contrast with national norms; national survey data published by the Princeton Religious Research Center indicate that the higher the level of educational attainment, the lower the level of religious zeal. [1]
"

A recent Gallup International survey indicates this is international levels of atheism decline after age 30 while self-description as "a religious person" rises [3].

The Pew Global Attitudes Project surveyed opinions by nation with the question "How important is religion in your life—very important, somewhat important, not too important, or not at all important?" [4]
