World Security Bureau (General Hospital)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Security Bureau, or WSB, is a fictional intelligence agency featured on the long-running daytime soap opera General Hospital. The WSB is similar in nature to The International Security Alliance, or ISA, on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Throughout the 1980's and early 90's, the WSB was a plot element used on the show as part of action-adventure stories General Hospital became known for.

While it is unknown what government or governments the WSB answers to, (presumably NATO, due to the fact most of the agents are from allied nations such as, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom) WSB operatives come from various nations and backgrounds. It is a highly secretive organization that deals with operations very effectively and efficiently. In the world of ABC Daytime, it has been stated that the WSB exceeds both the American CIA and British SIS in power. Unlike, the ISA of Days of Our Lives which is a dual law enforcement and intelligence organization, the WSB seems to solely deal with espionage and counterterrorism and has, according to Stefan Cassadine, "the best agents in the world". The agency's operatives have a number of special operations and espionage skills such as weapons expertise, unarmed combat mastery, demolitions, disguise, infiltration/intrusion, protective operations, interrogation/manipulation, sabotage, and even assassination, as well as various criminal skills, which have made some into excellent crime fighters or master criminals the same. Within the WSB is also a Black Ops section, whose agents deal with enemies or targets of the WSB solely with lethal force. The WSB also has a very important rule forbidding agents from marrying each other. The counter-organization to the WSB is the DVX. Like the WSB, it is unknown whom the DVX answers to operationally but, most of its agents come from Eastern Bloc and Asian nations. The DVX has proved to be the only entity capable of truly facing the WSB "toe to toe".

Popular WSB agents on General Hospital were Robert Scorpio, Anna Devane, Sean Donely, and Frisco Jones. Though they were never agents, Luke Spencer, Mac Scorpio, and Holly Sutton assisted on some missions.
