Worcester Novices' Chase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Worcester Novices' Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above novices. It is run over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) at Newbury Racecourse in late November or early December. There are eighteen fences to be jumped in the race.

Prior to 2000 it was run at Worcester Racecourse over 2 miles 7½ furlongs and prior to 1996 the race distance was 2 miles 7 furlongs. It was first run under its present conditions in 1990, having previously been run as the Fred Rimell Memorial Novices' Chase over 2 miles 4 furlongs.

The only winner of the race to go on to win one of the Grade 1 races in the three-mile novice chasing division has been Darkness, subsequent winner of the 2005 Feltham Novices' Chase. Two runners have gone on to win the Royal & SunAlliance Chase – Young Hustler, fourth in 1992, and One Knight, third in 2002.
