Camp Wonder is the name of medically staffed summer camps sponsored by the Children's Skin Disease Foundation (www.csdf.org). Established in 2000 by then 16 year old Francesca Tenconi who was diagnosed with Pemphigus Foliaceous, a life threatening auto-immune based skin disease. Francesca contracted the most serious form of the disease when she was 11 and was close to death in 1996 and 1998. Because of her medical condition she could not attend any summer camp which she felt was not fair to her or to other children with chronic and life threatening skin disease. She decided to form a non-profit to provide a medically staffed summer camp experience for children with skin disease. With the help of Dr. Jenny Kim and Dr. Stefani Takahashi at the UCLA School of Medicine and her parents, Donald and Christine Tenconi. Camp Wonder 2001 was the first camp but since then there have been camps in California and North Carolina.
