Women's clothing in Iran

Since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, the Iranian government requires women to wear loose-fitting coats or cloaks in public such as the chador, as well as a headscarf that covers the hair. Even non-Muslim women must adhere to this dress code. The rules are not so strict with foreign women visiting Iran.

The ordinary headscarf is called rusari روسري in Persian. A popular type of headscarf among students is the maghnaeh مغنعه.

Something loose must be worn to cover the body in order to avoid exposer to other unmarried men.
