WOKO

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WOKO is an English-language American radio station located in Burlington, Vermont.

Owned and operated by Hall Communications, it broadcasts on the FM band on 98.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts (class C) using an omnidirectional antenna. The WOKO call sign is a nod to the famous WOKQ in Dover, New Hampshire even though the stations have never been owned by the same company. It is not related to the former WOKO (AM) which started in the 1920s in New York City and operated for many years in Albany before changing its callsign to WDDY under the ownership of Radio Disney.

The station has a country music format. It went on the air in 1962 as WJOY-FM, the station was also known as WQCR from 1972 to 1988. The station was known as "Rock 99" prior to the change to country. WOKO is co-owned with WBTZ, WIZN, WJOY, and WKOL in the Burlington-Plattsburgh market.
