WKYT-TV, channel 27, is the CBS station in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, serving the east-central part of Kentucky. Its transmitter is located in Lexington, east of the intersection of I-75 and US 60.
WKYT also operates a local CW affiliate, CWKYT on its digital signal.
WKYT regularly shows University of Kentucky Wildcats sports events which are popular in this market.
Its newscasts are also carried in the areas of northern Kentucky near Cincinnati on Insight Cable channel 6 weekdays at 6am, noon, 5-6:30pm and 11pm and weekends 6pm and 11pm (although some newscasts, especially at 6pm and 11pm, may be delayed or not seen, due to sporting events carried on CBS, which are carried on WKRC-TV in that area).

[edit] History
WKYT signed on September 30, 1957 as WKXP-TV, owned by Community Broadcast Partners; Frederic Gregg, Charles Wright and Harry Feingold, principals. It was a primary CBS affiliate, sharing ABC programming with WLEX-TV.[1]
In 1958, Taft Broadcasting Corporation bought the station and changed its calls to WKYT-TV. Kentucky Central Life Insurance bought the station in 1967. It lost ABC when WBLG-TV (channel 62, now WTVQ-TV, channel 36) signed on in 1968.
In 1993, after a protracted fraud investigation and bankruptcy of its parent, Kentucky Central Life Insurance Co., WKYT and WYMT were acquired by Gray Television.
WKYT's digital signal is transmitted on channel 13.
On Wednesday, April 11, WKYT aired 27 News First at 11 in HD, becoming the first news station in Kentucky to air the local news in HD. [1]
On August 21, WKYT broadcasts from its second digital channel in HD and CWKYT started broadcasting also in HD.
[edit] Programming
As a CBS affiliate, WKYT clears the entire CBS schedule in addition to its syndicated programming. But while most CBS affiliates air 'The Young and the Restless at 12:30 PM in the Eastern Time Zone, WKYT airs it at 9 AM instead. This, in part, owes to the fact that the Noon newscast airs for an entire hour; the 1 PM timeslot is filled in with syndicated programming, then resumes airing of the rest of the CBS Soap Operas at 1:30 PM.
[edit] CWKYT
The CWKYT branding is a combination meaning of CW and WKYT. Until October 2006, Louisville WB affiliate and future CW affiliate WBKI was available on Lexington cable systems; WBKI was later dropped from Insight systems in the Lexington area, to accommodate for the new CWKYT.[2] CWKYT can now be seen on Direct TV on channel 14. Baltimore CW station WNUV was the formerly designated WB/CW station for Direct TV in the Lexington market.
Previously, CWKYT was a UPN affiliate under the name "UPN Lexington."
[edit] Digital Television
The station's digital channel is multiplexed:

- ^ An e-mail query from a Wikipedia member to WBKI Chief Operating Officer Carol LaFever led to news that, due to a condition of WBKI's affiliation agreement, that station must vacate the channel on Insight Lexington for CWKYT. WBKI can still be seen over the air in much of the Lexington DMA and on about 20 other cable systems in that market, but not on Insight in Lexington.
