Witiyala Seewalie Thera is a Theravada Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka.

[edit] Early life & Education

Seewalie Thera was born in Sri Lanka. He was ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of 12, and received his education at Migadaya Pirivena,(a monk's school) at Matara. He received upasampada (Higher Ordination), when he was 20 in Malwatu Maha Viharaya, Kandy.

He received his higher education at Vidyalankara Maha Pirivena, Peliyagoda, Sri lanka. He has obtained Royal Pandit Degree from Oriental Studies Society of Sri Lanka, B.A. Honors Degree from University of Kelaniya, M.A. Degree from Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, Doctor of Literature Degree from Vidyalankara College, Kelaniya, Diploma in Pali Language & Buddhism from Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, and Diploma in Bible Studies from Bible Society of Kandy.

Formerly he was the Principal of Parama Dhamma Chetiya Pirivena, Ratmalana, Sri Lanka. He is the founder & president of the Minnesota Buddhist Vihara, United States. Presently, he is also the president of the Buddhist and Pali College, USA.

He currently serves as a volunteer chaplain on the Minneapolis Police Department, a board director on the McKinley Neighborhood Committee and a volunteer teacher at City View School, Minnesota.

His mission is to share the Buddha's message of peace and happiness and help to create peace and harmony within ourselves and in the surrounding world.
