[edit] Summary

The only photograph taken of Michael Wittmann’s destroyed late production model Tiger I no. 007 still in the fields near Gaumesnil, taken by the French civilian Mr Serge Varin in 1945 when he was cycling down the Caen-Falaise road (route nationale 158). Although the only photo he took to survive, he inspected the tank and concluded that an RAF Typhoon rocket must have destroyed it, as he also found an unexploded rocket near the tank. However the photo (as well as other evidence as you will see within the main article) also disproves his theory as it clearly shows the Pannier, a metal storage bin attached onto the back of the turret still intact, which would have been destroyed, had a rocket hit it.
