This photo is not correct - Wunsche is on the right. I knew Max Wusche personally and have personally met him and had dinner with him and his wife at his home in Germany in 1976. We talked for hours and he sent me many autographed photos.

Garbage! The photo is definitely correct. Wünsche is seen on the left, Fritz Witt on the right hand side of the photo, as Fritz Witt was Max Wünsche's commanding officer at the time. The photo was taken just days after Wünsche had been awarded the Knight's Cross on Feb. 28th 1943. Their are enough photos of Wünsche in parade uniform to corroberate these findings. See www.hero-faksimiles.de/neu/wuensche.html

Andreas, you are wrong! The person on the left is unknown, Witt in center and Wunsche on the right just under his hand.
David, maybe I´m wrong; but I would suggest you submit it to forensic experts. I have given you sufficient leads ( see above: www. heroes...etc.) to settle the issue one way or the other. More than likely all three men on the photo are now dead and it is hard to find survivors of the campaigns the LSSAH who can decide one way or the other. Does anyone know who the photographer was and in which context the photo was published? I personally have a copy on my desk at work. I find it to holds a poignant message on the topic of leadership: This scene portrays its essence. Witt is pointing to where the action is...Max Wünsche is most decidedly "already there". Would that we could adress issues of corporate governance in such trying times in such a succinct fashion: The Buck Stops Here! aas
