Non-free / fair use media rationale for Blue Network
Description

Matchbooks issued on behalf of two different Blue Network radio station affiliates in Indianapolis and Cleveland

Source

Original matchbooks in the collection of E.O. Costello; likely original source was the radio stations themselves

Article

Blue Network

Portion used

The front portion of each matchbook is used, omitting the text on the back

Low resolution?

This is a low-resolution copy. It is somewhat unlikely that a high resolution copy, in any event, would be used to make derivative works, such as T-shirts, given the nature of the work in question

Purpose of use

The purpose of the use of this photograph is to show how Blue Network radio stations were promoting themselves in the period 1942-1945 before the network changed its name, in the formative years of the network when it was trying to establish a new identity, a point made in the article

Replaceable?

Emphemera of this type is fairly rare, and there is not much in the way of surviving material demonstrating how individual Blue Network radio stations promoted themselves; this is particularly true because wartime paper drives would have claimed much of this material

Other information It is worth noting that no corporate logos are used in the advertisement. It is also very clear that these matchbooks was used for publicity purposes. It is proposed to use this photograph in the article "Blue Network"
