Window dressings are mannequins and so forth in a store’s display window to be viewed from the hall or sidewalk outside of the store. Putting a display of merchandise or holiday decorations in a store’s window or the trim itself is window dressing. As a figure of speech, it is something done to make a better impression and sometimes implies something dishonest. ^[1]
